hadley
i don't think you could actually call it a session. it was more like five minutes of casual nothingness in the middle of my living room, but i'm pretty smitten with the results - smitten because today was the day i met my newest niece for the first time.

michael - newborn session
it's just expected that newborn sessions are going to take a while. nursing breaks, diaper changes, wardrobe changes because there was no diaper on at the time...newborns can be pretty unpredictable. but like i told paul and claire when i left their house after shooting their baby boy's first photos, he made this one of my easiest sessions ever.
when i arrived to shoot michael's pictures, he had been awake for the previous three hours. unfortunately, a recently awake baby doesn't always make for a currently asleep baby, so i wasn't sure we'd be able to get to work anytime soon. instead, this is what i got...
you know it's some good sleep when the arms do this...
my favorite thing about summer babies is that we get the chance to shoot outside in the warm shade. and judging by his curled-up-cuteness, i'm guessing that michael was a fan of it, too.
paul and claire, thank you so much for letting me visit with you and cuddle with your sweet blessing. i have been and will continue to be praying for you.

campbell
newborns sleep, and sleepy baby pictures are to die for.
older babies crawl, walk, and play, and that makes for easy shooting.
but that non-gross-motor window between newborn and six months requires a lot more creativity when it comes to photography. babies are adorably cuddly and sweet at that age, but the difficulty comes in the fact that they just can't do much of anything, so it's easy for your photos to all look the same. when i met with my-college-roomie-turned-fab-teacher-and-mom last week for campbell's fourth month session, i was honestly a bit nervous about what we would be able to capture. but when you've got as much personality as this little guy has, "boring" never enters the picture.
take a few creatively placed blankets, pillows, and weights, and you suddenly have a sitter!
sarah, i hope that you guys have a fantastic time at your big family beach trip. thanks for asking me to join you down there to do everybody's pictures. trust me, nobody was more disappointed that it didn't work out than i was. :-)

anna-kate and leslie - married!
it's impossible to meet them and not love them. she's a petite beauty, and he's the handsome gentleman who loves her with his whole heart. i'm thrilled to introduce you to my new friends, leslie and anna-kate oglesby.
as i typically do, i began their wedding day with the details that help make a bride beautiful.
and by the time anna-kate had finished dressing in her fabulous gown and veil, she looked nothing short of magnificent.
but not to be outdone, leslie cleaned up pretty nicely himself.
when leslie saw his bride for the first time as she walked toward him down the aisle, i would dare say he was breathless. (my view is on the left and anna's is on the right)
but one of my favorite moments of the day came as anna and i hung back and let leslie and anna-kate have some sweet moments alone after their ceremony. i couldn't help but smile when i heard leslie say: i've got to step back and look at your dress. i haven't seen it yet because i couldn't take my eyes off of your gorgeous face. swoon.
another of my favorite moments came as i hung out by a tree and quietly watched them step out of the church together laughing. something about this photo screams "royalty" to me. i can't figure out if it's the dress, her tiara, or what...but they could totally be prince and princess here.
once their limo arrived, anna-kate and leslie had a grand entrance to their reception in the crystal room of the north river yacht club...
and they spent the next several hours dancing and enjoying the company of all of their guests.
anna-kate and leslie, i simply adored my time with you at your beautiful wedding and i hope that you're having a wonderfully relaxing and sweet time together on your honeymoon. congratulations from all of your family and friends!!

amy and hunter - married!!
i loved them the night i met them. she's a sweet beauty, he's the hysterical love of her life, and you can't help but want to spend more time with them. they're perfect for one another, and everything about their wedding day matched the perfection of their love.
one of the many reasons i'm so happy that amy and hunter are married now is that i can finally post some of the photos from amy's bridal session. we shot at the same amazing location as we did for their engagement session, and it was hard not to tear up when i saw amy as a bride for the first time. i love this precious girl...and i love her dress and shoes!
but gorgeous as they are, put amy in them and they suddenly transform into breathtaking.
when i arrived at altadena valley presbyterian church on her wedding day saturday, amy was taking care of some last-minute finishing touches.
as i went to get hunter and place him for their first look together, my fabulous second-shooter, anna, captured this last photo of amy getting ready to see her groom...
and this beauty of her walking to where he was waiting for her.
brides, if you haven't considered a first look before the ceremony, i would strongly suggest it. it's absolutely my favorite part of the day! intimate, sweet, exciting, teary...more emotion than i could possibly write about gets wrapped up in those moments between a bride and groom. on this particular day, amy was giddy with excitement and hunter simply couldn't take his eyes off of his gorgeous bride.
and back to amy's dress for a second...it had pockets, people! (another anna special)
before i go much farther, i just have to chat a bit about amy's bridesmaids. it's so obvious why amy asked these particular girls to stand with her on her wedding day. they're loving, encouraging, funny, and beautiful - all around fabulous!!
amy and hunter officially joined their lives together in a sweet marriage ceremony performed by amy's grandfather, and then it was off to swann lake stables for their incredibly beautiful reception.
neillie and katherine of mariee ami put in countless hours to ensure that amy and hunter's wedding day was perfect. they're incredibly easy to work with, they have an amazing eye for detail, and their talent shone brightly as the sun set over the stables. thank you, ladies, for making my job so easy!!
i can think of two people who were particularly thrilled with the perfection of the day.

the egglestons - family session
it's the last session i'm doing for a while as the wedding rush is beginning this weekend. but what a fun session it turned out to be! i've had the privilege of working with chad, mandy, and cady several times now, and i'm convinced that every time they come to birmingham for their photographs, cady gets more precious and more stuffed with personality.
chad and mandy make parenting look like a delightfully easy and exciting ride...
but after meeting nonnie, i can see where they learned it. as i told them yesterday, that lady's got moves, and if i were giving out an award for the world's spunkiest grandma, nonnie would win it hands-down.
chad, mandy, nonnie, and pappy - thank you for sharing your wonderful enthusiasm with me yesterday. i left our time together with a big smile on my face!! thank you also for driving in a little earlier than planned. because of your flexibility, i made it to the hospital just in time. :-)
