she contacted a local photographer to take pictures of her daughters, but unfortunately, their schedules didn't match up and they couldn't get a session on the books. "i'd be happy to recommend someone else to you, though," the photographer replied. (insert here a huge THANK YOU to this wonderful professional for not getting wrapped up in the all-too-common territorial-ism that tends to plague the world of photography. i so greatly appreciate your kindness and recommendation!)
so with that, the flannagan family found their way onto my calendar, and we met on a gorgeous and cool evening recently to shoot photos with their beautiful girls.
if i'm shooting with a new client for the first time, i love to get a bit of background on who they really are and what makes them tick. how did they meet? how did he propose? or in the case of little people like marley and laney, tell me a little about their personalities or what are some of their likes and dislikes? not only does it help me to feel like i know the family a bit on our session day, but it also helps me to capture some of those personality traits on camera.
mom: "laney, even though she is only 3 months, is laid back, smiles all the time and is a very content baby. you can tell that she is a very sweet soul."
"marley is a very free spirit and always on the go, constantly looking for the next thing to do. she will not wear a bow and prefers crocs and a tie died t-shirt." my reply? make sure to bring the shirt and shoes with you.
i love more "traditional" pictures as much as the next girl, but the day will come when marley's hot pink crocs and her colorful hand-me-down "florida" tee will only be a faint memory. i hope these photos will make them all smile one day.
little laney held true to her happy baby reputation...
but that kind of smile doesn't just come from anywhere. no, there's only one person who can make a baby girl's face light up like that.
thank you, flannagan family, for letting me spend a beautiful evening with you and your sweet girls!
