we've had a slew of baby bird births around our house over the past few months, but unfortunately, we've also had a slew of baby bird deaths due to the neighborhood stray cats. so when the kids and i hit the yard to see what we could find, we were super-excited to discover this little guy hopping through the flower bed.
we didn't want to attract too much attention to him from hungry feline eyes, so we moved on and found lots more to see. some of these creatures are a far cry from the cuteness i normally see through my lens, but i thought they were pretty amazing nonetheless.
ok ok, so the horses weren't in my backyard, but we found these guys when we were out looking at houses this week. the kids begged to get out and ride them, but something about the electric fence told us it wasn't such a good idea. oh, and just as we were heading back inside after our nature excursion, the baby bird's momma swooped in with lunch. so sweet (only i think she may have fed her baby the bug i shot above).
**as i was proofing this post, my five-year-old came over and said, "oh, look at that baby bird!! is that the one that didn't die?!?" it's been a rough summer for the birds around here.**
