lyla - newborn session

'tis the season for newborns at allison lewis photography!  this little darling's first appearance in front of the camera didn't go quite as planned, though.  in fact, it was actually a bit of a roller coaster ride.  a few weeks ago when i shot maternity photos with rachel and chris, we chatted about the timing of rachel's due date.  my heart sank a little when i realized that she was due on february 2 - the exact day i would be landing in addis ababa, ethiopia to appear in court for our adoption.  not to worry, though, because i excitedly took a phone call from rachel's sister, bethany, on january 25 letting me know that baby lyla was about to make her debut.  we were all clear for photos before i left.

or not.

shortly after the new family arrived home from the hospital, i got sick with the flu, so i wasn't going within seven miles of their house.  i made the trip to ethiopia anyway, arrived home on february 8, and glanced at my calendar with majorly jet-lagged peepers to schedule lyla's photos for february 12.  unfortunately, by that point the poor munchkin had begun battling severe reflux, and after a couple of hours of crying (lyla, not me), rachel and i decided to try it another day. 

another day arrived, lyla was feeling better, and we were able to shoot some precious photos of a precious baby girl.  here, take a peek...





her tummy began hurting during some of the photos, but her daddy was able to settle her back down.  so sweet!



after bethany had her baby, i used this hat during little sara's newborn session:



rachel and bethany's mom had one request for me while i was doing lyla's photos and that was to get a mirror-image picture of the one i had done with sara wearing the very same hat months ago.  mission accomplished, lulu!   (lyla's on the left and sara's on the right)



sara was actually with us at lyla's newborn session this week, so we were able to take advantage of rachel and bethany's creativity for an adorable easter setup.  love this!



thank you, girls, for letting me spend time getting to know and photograph your precious daughters.  i think they're pretty fantastic (but, of course, they've got pretty fantastic mommas to love them and make them that way!)
